{"id":302,"date":"2006-08-04T12:38:00","date_gmt":"2006-08-04T12:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.tola.me.uk\/blog\/2006\/08\/04\/improving-my-paper-writing-skills\/"},"modified":"2006-08-04T12:38:00","modified_gmt":"2006-08-04T12:38:00","slug":"improving-my-paper-writing-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tola.me.uk\/blog\/2006\/08\/04\/improving-my-paper-writing-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"Improving my paper writing skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think it&#8217;s interesting to compare the feedback from judges on my past two entries to Paper writing competitions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2005 Entry:<br \/><\/strong>The Judges felt that, although this entry was not of degree standard, it<br \/>contained a well developed argument with a clear purpose and a natural<br \/>flow, was <em><strong>interesting to read<\/strong><\/em>, with a good structure. On the whole the<br \/>Judges were impressed with this entry and the thorough research that had<br \/>gone into the essays production. The Judges noted that the topic was of<br \/>general and wide interest and, although the essay is <strong><em>not particularly<br \/>technical<\/em>,<\/strong> it offers quite a grand vision and suggested that, with some<br \/>editing, the paper may be suitable for publication.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2006 Entry:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Well-written but <em><strong>without a great sense of interest or excitement<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Good technical material<\/em> <\/strong>(although a little dry for a general audience)<\/li>\n<li>Figures not of a high quality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p> I seem to have tipped the balance too far in the other direction this year after last year&#8217;s feedback, next year I need to pitch it somewhere in the middle. Apparently this year&#8217;s winner of the IET Write Around the World competition has entered for the past three years.
